Two Types of Cheaters Among Modern Couples

You’ve probably heard of the website Ashley Madison.  A site where people who want to cheat on their significant other can go to find hook-ups.

Tammy Nelson, a sex and relationship therapist, and the relationship expert at Ashley Madison says there are 2 distinct types of cheating among modern couples

Nelson said there are, generally speaking, two types of affairs: those in which people want to leave their primary relationship and those in which they don’t.

Some experts say people who are not looking to leave their relation are sometimes more dissatisfied with themselves than they are with their primary relationship.

People who are trying to end their primary relationship wind up in what Nelson calls a “can-opener” affair. “That’s when you have an affair because you want out,” she said, “and you don’t know how to end it.”

According to Nelson, women are more likely than men to have can-opener affairs. “It’s kind of a passive-aggressive way of saying, ‘I want out,’ even before I know I want out.”
